Look at the thread count on the label. A higher thread count makes for a better sheet. But the highest thread count is not the only important number.Thread count is only one part of sheeting and originally thread count was developed really for just percale sheets The thread structure is kind of like a basket weave. Not all sheets have a percale weave, which means thread count is not an accurate measure of the quality of most sheets
Consider the fiber content listed on the label. All cotton sheets are a little more expensive than a cotton/polyester blend. They will will feel cooler and release dirt better. The cotton/polyester sheets will wrinkle less and are more durable. The best cotton is Egyptian Cotton.
Look for long fiber sheets because they are softer. Egyptian Cotton, Pima and Supima are high quality long fibers.
Select a sheet with a higher proportion of vertical yarns. A higher proportion of vertical yarns makes a much softer sheet. The label might say something like "four over, one under." The higher the over the more vertical yarns. These sheets might pill and tear easier.
Look for the label or description to say "yarn dyed," otherwise it is probably dyed after the sheets are made. This will also make the sheet softer.
The more of these tips you use the higher the price the sheet will be and more delicate.
Find sheets that are light weight for winter and heavier for the summer
The color you pick can affect your mood. Don't make room color the only reason to pick a color. You may even want to think about how you look on that color.
When washing your sheets check the label for instructions some can be washed on normal in warm water, more delicate ones need special cycles.
Drying your sheets on the line in the winter brings out the color or bleaches the whites. In the summer the sun can rob the color from the sheets.
